Update your income - It's fast!

Blog

I received this in an email today:

Update your income.
Update now. It's fast!
Why do we need your income?
Adding your income to your account profile will assist us to regularly assess your eligibility for a credit line increase.
It's one easy way we can work together to meet your financial needs.

The cynic in me thinks, no, you aren't asking for my income in order to give me a credit line increase in the future, you're asking for my income so that you can better target ads and products to me.

And these are things I am tired of receiving.

I'm not interested in more credit. I'm not interested in going further into debt. I'm interested in reducing my consumption, saving money, and being able to walk away from all of this. Why the f--- would I help you take me further into debt?

It's like Twitter saying, oh, the t.co links are just so that we can protect our users by blocking bad urls. No, they aren't. You can block bad URLs by not allowing them to be linkable. The t.co links are all about tracking and advertising.

Call a spade a spade (or, hell, call a fig a fig and a trough a trough), but stop with the doublespeak.

Judging from the total level of indebtedness of the United States over time (now at about 390% of GDP or so), this sort of thing seems to work.

I know, cheerful. Like Twitter's after-market meltdown today....
