Full night's sleep

Blog

On any given night, there are three or four beings in our bed, depending on what time you check.

I usually go to bed first, heading to bed some time between 10:30 pm and 11:30 pm, depending on the evening's activities, Kris heading to bed sometime between 1:00 am and 5:00 am, depending on his morning's activities. Bella always goes to the bed when her favorite person has gone to bed, which is usually me. I've learned not to mind, as she's pretty snuggly warm in the cold, cold bed, warming it up quickly. Annie wanders in sometime during the night, I never know when, but I always find out at 4:00 am.

I rarely manage (almost wrote "get" there) a full night of uninterrupted sleep. I blame the dogs, as I can sleep the whole night through in the guest room, where the dogs aren't allowed to enter. I figure the dogs are moving around in the bed during the night, snuggling here, shifting there through out the night, especially Annie, who likes to snuggle close. She'll snuggle so close that she ends up pushing the snugglee over a bit. We've woken up in the morning with Kris, Bella and I on half of the bed, Annie on the other half. Sometimes I wonder if a bigger bed would be a good idea, but that would require a bigger house, and we know where that argument always ends up.

What I couldn't understand, however, was how Kris managed to sleep all the way through a night undisturbed by the dogs' antics. How did he manage to sleep in the same bed, with the same crowded-with-warm-bodies-moving disturbances, and still manage a good night's sleep?

This morning, I found out.

Bella tried to outmaneuver Kris for bedspace this morning. She failed, as Kris left his leg placed much the same as where it was before she started maneuvering, and on top of Bella in the end.

Rather than moving around the dogs, Kris sleeps on top of them.
