Best New Year's Eve Photo

Blog

I helped Jonathan host his new year party with his HS friends. Lots of emotions for me with this party. It was lovely and amazing. I met the previously-not-met wives of his HS friends, as well as the other Jon, whom, despite knowing Jonathan for 13+ years and living in Ottawa for 4 of those year, I had not met before. Hayden and I bonded somewhat with the "wow, we are awkward here" sort of introvert experience. I delighted in helping Jonathan keep the cocktails and mocktails plentiful. I was an amazing hostess.

Christmas Coffee

Blog

Dad likes, uh, not great coffee. After our walk downtown yesterday, and having the proprietor tell us they were open today, I knew that I wanted one of Dad's birthday gifts to be those new coffee drinks. Which is to say, an espresso drink.

Today, we drove at least.

So today, Dad had his first espresso-based drink: a latte.

His review?

"It was pretty good."

Our Dork Faces

Blog

Certain people have a way of moving that instantly says "Nerd!" or "Geek!" whatever the preferred word is. The style is seen in dancing, in running, in general body movements. I am one of those people. I full-body speak once I have built up a head of steam, and, let me say, I am a sight to behold.

Jonathan often calls me "dork" when I'm moving in my "certain people have this way of moving" mode. I rallied against the word for a long time, for reasons he knows. He explained to me, and I finally heard, this year that dork is completely a term of endearment, part of my charm, part of the attraction.

I have rubbed off onto him. He can dork it up with me, and does frequently.

He still won't bounce with me, but, well, let's be real: I can bounce for both of us.

We're in Chicago to visit Dad this Christmas. Jessie is picking us up shortly.

We're on a train TO SEATTLE.

I don't recall which trip, which is pretty terrible that I can't remember, or maybe pretty remarkable that we have journeyed so much that I can't remember.

Update: Jonathan says, "Train ride to Paris." Whoo!

Turns out, Jonathan was mistaken, this was our trip from Portland to Seattle on Oct 20th of this year. Love you, Jonathan, but you're wrong sometimes.
